I finally watched Stargate Continuum and the most important thing I have to say is HELLO DANIEL JACKSON. He looked "pause you DVD and stare for a few minutes" good.

My non-spoilery review is this: I loved, loved, loved the movie. I loved it more than I expected to and ate up every single second of SG-1 on screen. It was an entirely satisfying 98 minutes the the bonus of some great DVD extras.

Spoilers and lots of thoughts about the characters )

I didn't read anyone's reviews because I wanted to stay unspoiled. I'd love it if you can link me to what you said. (It seems "love" is my word of the day.)

Entirely unrelated, I have a random Facebook etiquette question: Do you feel an obligation to accept friend requests from anyone you know who sends one? I have random colleagues sending me friend requests and, while I don't actually update Facebook with anything personal or revealing, it seems weird to just accept friend requests from casual acquaintances in the office. On the other hand, it seems awkward to ignore a request from someone I see around the office fairly regularly even if we don't interact much.

[Poll #1231962]

While I'm at it, here are two fic recs - both SG-1:

Sam/Jack: Concentric Unto Thee by [livejournal.com profile] gabolange Her attempts at normality have never worked before, and Jack won’t stand for any attempts to apply the logic of command to their relationship. This is a gorgeous story. It’s established relationship, set post SGA 05×01, and is all about Sam’s choices - and the weight Jack carries in them.

Jack/Daniel: Cards on the Table by [livejournal.com profile] princessofg This is a hot, first time fic that, more than anything, will put a smile on your face. It’s so nice to read a story that's this easy.
  • I stopped on my way home from work to pick up Stargate Continuum. I'm so excited to have it in my hands. I'm almost completely unspoiled. Though I admit the blurb on the back of the dvd has me a bit nervous. ) But, regardless, new Stargate is in my hands! With RDA, to boot!

  • I finished season 1 of Dr. Who and, for the record, I finally get it. Nine is awesome. If I'd fallen for Dr. Who in season one I would have been very, very sad to lose Nine. In fact, even loving Ten as I do, I was sad we didn't have more than 13 episodes with Eccelston.

I think the biggest surprise to me is the connection between Nine and Rose. There's a clear attraction between them that doesn't resonate for me in quite the same way with Ten/Rose. More broadly, Nine seems much more generally sexual than Ten. Watching Ten, I assumed that The Doctor was not just solitary but nearly asexual. I saw that he truly loved Rose but it didn't feel passionate or sexual. With Nine, I felt a passionate connection.

But Ten is still my doctor. He's so effusive and charming and his hair just can't be beat.

  • What's the story with SPN today? All I can gather is that it's something about Jensen's lawyer, fan sites, and a C&D letter. I have no details and I'll spare you my unproductive speculation. (But, oh, I do love to speculate!) I'm not even entirely sure why everything is suddenly locked down and I am one curious cat. ETA: Got it. (Links in comments.)

  • This is a very good week at work. It's crazy but good and I'm doing my best to enjoy all of it.

PS. Google made me smile today.

I need to start keeping a list of the ComicCon content I need to get back to. God, there's a lot. It's a beautiful thing!

Many more photos from the EW/Sci-fi ComicCon party here courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] dryope.

  • 'Battlestar' at Comic-Con: A clue about the final Cylon from Maureen Ryan/Chicago Tribune

  • IGN's BSG panel recap

  • The BSG panel! Courtesy of scifi.com.

  • A very detailed report on the SPN panel from [livejournal.com profile] glendaglamazon and [livejournal.com profile] annkiri.

  • ComicCon picspam from [livejournal.com profile] own_the_sky here, here, and here including a photo of Tom Zarek with Bester.

  • Dr. Who/Torchwood panel recaps from [livejournal.com profile] heidi8 here and [livejournal.com profile] coolwhipdiva here.

PS. When is Bruce Boxleitner going to start with Heroes media?!?

Must shower and get to work!
  • 1. [livejournal.com profile] halowrites posted these pictures of Ronon Jason Momoa that have me squealing and flailing about like a little squealing, flailing thing!! I'm too lazy to post the myself but follow the link and love of Jason with the rest of us!

    2. The Discovery channel is airing a 6 part, 12 hour, miniseries titled, When We Left Earth beginning on June 8th! It's all about the NASA missions and includes never before seen NASA footage. So awesome!! As a preview, over here is a webcast of a panel discussion with Buzz Aldrin, Charlie Duke, and John Ford, the Discovery Channel president. (An aside, I love how Aldrin preens when hearing his bio. He certainly earned it.)

    3. I saw Indiana Jones tonight and I spent a good part of the movie thinking of how Daniel Jackson would have been influenced by the legacy of Henry Jones. If the Stargate program didn't exist, Daniel is just the type to end up in Indy style mishaps and, similarly, Indiana Jones would have been a kick ass Stargate team member. I can totally envision a world where Jones is brought in to study the Stargate when it's found in Giza and he, like Catherine, is entranced by the puzzle for all of his life. In my mind, maybe he's even alive to see Daniel crack the code. Sadly, the timing is off for the crossover I really want: an off-world archaeological mystery stumps Daniel so he calls in his old professor, Dr. Jones, to help. *sigh*

[livejournal.com profile] paian wrote a follow-up to As You Were: Facing Movements - Jack/Daniel, referenced Daniel/Cameron, 4450 words, mature. It's a gorgeous, aching, hopeful story with characterizations that melt my heart. No one writes Jack/Daniele like paian.

And what's my journal these days without mention of BSG? Tricia Helfer, Katee Sackhoff, and Jamie Bamber on "Best Week Ever." The guy's not wrong...they're all damn hot. I love a scruffy, leather clad Bamber.

As motivation to get my ass to the gym and the post office, I'm in the process of converting episodes 04x03 and 04x04 of Boston Legal to ipod format. I only get to watch if I'm on the treadmill or elliptical at the time. That should be the motivation I need because I'm ready for more Boston Legal now.
Last week kicked my ass and next week promises more of the same so I'm doing my best to shut down my brain this weekend.

I just finished a fantastic SG-1 Jack, gen story: Walked Right Out of the Machinery by [livejournal.com profile] rydra_wong. It's long (73,000 words) and is AU following "Abyss." It's an ambitious story and a really interesting look at the Tok'ra but, more than that, it makes me miss Jack tremendously. SG-1 isn't quite SG-1 without Jack.

I'm also nearly through with season 3 of Boston Legal. Cut because I'm hopeful cranberryink will watch and I don't want to risk spoilers )

That's actually all I have to say except that Boston Legal = LOVE!

Tonight I'm going to a Purim party sponsored by a local synogogue's young professional group. It's a potluck at someone's house and I don't know anyone but I was recently inspired by [livejournal.com profile] arsenicjade to get more involved in my local Jewish community so off I go! But first, a nap.

    ( Mar. 11th, 2008 07:06 pm)
I had a terrible day today. It was all work related so I won't bore you with the details but it was truly awful. To console myself (and also because it was on my calendar!), I stopped at Borders to pick up Ark of Truth. I couldn't find it anywhere but a solicitous employee came by and didn't stop looking until she found the copies for me in the back room. Perhaps it was because I looked pathetic or perhaps it was because I said, "A ten season television show ended on a cliff hanger and this movie ties up the loose ends. I'm leaving here with a copy of the movie." SG-1 Ark of Truth is mine and, as soon as I click, "post to saturn92103," in it goes!

Daniel Jackson has the power to save my day.

[livejournal.com profile] carta linked me to this post in Joe Mallozzi's blog that includes a deleted scene from the SGA episode, "Trio." The scene inspired the following poll:

    [Poll #1152659]

Patrick Stewart found himself a new girlfriend! [livejournal.com profile] stewart_daily tells me she is Catherine Moellering, 34, a graduate of Harvard Business School and president of Best & Co. I actually have nothing else to say about Patrick Stewart's love life other than I wouldn't pass up a chance to be part of it.

    • A meme from [livejournal.com profile] splifford! I love this one. Play with me!!

      1. Post a list of seven ten TV shows you love (current or canceled).
      2. Have your friends list guess your favorite character from each show.
      3. When guessed, bold the line and write a little bit about why you like that character.
      4. Post in your own journal.

      1. Star Trek: TNG - I was 16 and Riker was my man. Besides, I think I have a thing for men with beards.
      2. The West Wing - Sam! I loved them all but Sam was my favorite. He was so earnest. And smart. And he had this great way of tripping over himself.
      3. CSI - Hahaha! Is it any question this is Grissom? My love for him is inappropriate given he's a fictional character.
      4. Stargate SG-1 - I must have a thing for the smart guys. Daniel was my favorite through the entire series but I particularly like him in the later seasons when he's jaded enough to have a dangerous edge about him.
      5. Stargate: Atlantis - I love Ronon. He's so brave and strong and funny when you least expect it and much smarter than anyone originally gave him credit for.
      6. House - Wilson is the best trusty sidekick ever.
      7. Scarecrow & Mrs. King - I want to grow up and be Amanda King! Reallly, I do!
      8. Battlestar Galactica - I love Roslin as much for her strengths as I do for her flaws. She's smart, strong, beautiful and courageous but she's also, sometimes, too single minded and stubborn for her own good.
      9. Criminal Minds - Criminal Minds was difficult for me because Reid is so, so fabulous but there's something about Hotch, you know? He's the one I want to go home with. He's the one I want to distract from the madness of their days.
      10. Friends - Rachel!

    • The SG-1 episode where Sam's stuck on the planet that was bombed by Anubis' drones is on which means so is Carmen Argenziano. All of this is to say, I loved him on House!!

    • Also about SG-1, over the past 8 or 9 months, I've been lending my SG-1 DVDs to a colleague. I recently mentioned my frustration that I bought seasons 1- 8 before they came out in slimline and she said she may be interested in buying my DVDs at a discount so I can buy the nifty SG-1 Series box set. I did the math and, with my discount plus tax, it would cost $278. I can sell her the 10 seasons for $25 each which saves her money on the total but only puts me out $28 to upgrade to the box set. I'm crossing my fingers that she's in on the deal. ([livejournal.com profile] cranberryink...I may have to come calling for my DVDs back but, if I do, I'll send you the slim line versions once I upgrade.)

    • Someone on [livejournal.com profile] rob_daily posted a photo from an upcoming episode without a cut tag. GRRRR. It wasn't tremendously spoilery (and he was very pretty) but it's the principle. I prefer that spoilers only come my way when I actively seek them out. DOUBLE GRRRR.

    • I get a [livejournal.com profile] kiffle tomorrow!! I'm so excited. She'll meet Sally and then it's a road trip to Chicago where Jared and Jensen are waiting for us. It's the perfect end to this year's con season.

Oh, my god, today was the LAZIEST of days. I woke up. Read fic. Napped for three hours. Read more fic. Watched some West Wing. Now I'm getting ready for bed. I was everything I hoped for the day. :)

New SG-1 photos are out! Promotional shots for Ark of Truth! Non-spoilery shots in that they're just of the team in front of a white background but they're new! I love Daniel!

(I like that they've maintained the continuity of the grey in Teal'c hair from "Unending" but must it look like it was painted on?)

Btw, does anyone know how they're getting Carter from Atlantis back with SG-1 for the film(s)? And when do we get them??

([livejournal.com profile] kiffle, [livejournal.com profile] alittleblue, [livejournal.com profile] carta and [livejournal.com profile] anamchara! Our photo with Shanks arrived in the mail today! I'm biased but, seriously, we're so cute!!)

I have 5:30 dinner plans tomorrow and I will get myself to the gym and supermarket during the day. I will. I said it here first.

PS. I really think Jensen Ackles and Rob Lowe should be cast in a movie as brothers where Jensen's still working in the small town where they grew up and Rob's character is a high powered attorney but there's family trouble so they have to team up and they spend a lot of time being hot on screen together. More often than not, Jensen should be dirty and Rob should be wearing a tie.

I've never seen this clip before but it's Shanks and Tapping and Judge and the love each other so much!

And I'm playing the "five people you'd sleep with no questions asked" game but without the photos because I'm lazy. Oh, also? My chances of any of these happening slide from negative a billion percent to negative a trillion percent because two of the people aren't real. But I'd still sleep with them.

    1) Daniel Jackson
    2) Jensen Ackles
    3) Rob Lowe
    4) Gil Grissom
    5) Viggo Mortenson

Out for sushi tonight followed by Ben & Jerry's a stop into Borders for Pink's CD. I don't know why I resisted this long. "Dear Mr. President" is reason enough to fork over my money.

Last up, a fic rec. At The Hour When We Are Trembling by [livejournal.com profile] frostfire_17. It's John Sheppard/Daniel Jackson apocafic. I read it last night and I've been thinking about it all day. Summary: The Wraith make it to Earth, and John and Daniel are left to pick up the pieces. It's so good.

    • Scientists find most Earth-like planet yet!

    • I have an embarrassing urge to buy some Stargate stamps. I know I'd never use them (which, I suppose, is their point) but these are the kind of impulse purchases I need to QUIT.

    • SG-1 fic recs: Don't Get Around Much Anymore and Until Tomorrow by [livejournal.com profile] princessofg. I read these both a while ago but I recently reread them and you should to. I love the character voices and the dynamic between Jack & Daniel.

    • Work is Stressful and I wish I was comfortable talking about it in more detail but I always envision my boss placing a printed copy of one of my posts in front of me and that's enough to stop me cold.

    • I got some outstanding health news recently. Anyone who was following along might remember that I had some genetic testing to see if I carry the breast cancer/ovarian cancer gene mutation that my mother has. I got my results back and, right there, in big bold letters it says, "NO MUTATION DETECTED." The fact that both my sister and I are clear is almost too much to process. My mom's not a crier but this news did it.

    • I still own my home in FL. There's nothing else to say about that circumstance that won't make me throw up.

    • I have a date next Monday night. It's a first date, he's nice (and attractive), and spring brings on the dating buzz. Perhaps, someday soon, someone will stick.

    • My time with my trainer is almost at an end and I'm not sure I'm ready to give her up. (I wouldn't if it weren't for issues associated with the bullet two up from this one.) She pushes me and motivates me and she's excellent at helping me understand smart ways to build endurance and strength.

    ( Apr. 15th, 2007 07:10 pm)

    • I finally caught up on SG-1 (*is sad*) and have things to say about "Unending". General thoughts and one scene played out in screencaps. Come play! )

      I *heart* Daniel Jackson.

    • I never have good dreams but, last night, I had a dream that I was at a dinner party with Grace Park, Edward James Olmos, and Mary McDonnell and I spent the entire time fawning over MMD. Even in my dream it was embarrassing. Not quite related to anything but the fawning, here's a picture of EJO and MMD at the BSG finale screening. Clearly it's their rl chemistry translating to the screen. (Click for a larger version.)

    • There's a crazy thread over at house_cuddy that started when someone posted a vid that clearly stole clips from someone else's vids. There's anger and hurt feelings but what no one seems to realize (or acknowledge) is that the original batshit crazy poster/vid maker is clearly nothing more than a whore of a troll.

    • Sally always seems to like my bed best when I'm changing the sheets. (I like her best all the time.) Click for larger versions.

    • This last bit is probably only exciting to me but I finally bought a table for my entry way. The open space was driving me bonkers.

    • It's a wake for SG-1 complete with a host of laugh out loud quotes. Jack was the best. (Daniel was the hottest.)

    • I haven't seen last weeks BSG and get home from London around 6pm on Sunday. I know I'll be jet lagged and exhausted but I'm afraid to wait until Monday to catch up for fear I'll be spoiled for the big thing we're finding out during the season finale. Mmmmm. Maybe I can take advantage of the jet lag and to go bed really early and then watch the finale before work on Monday.

    • My week in London is exceeding expectations. I'm getting sick and I'm as exhausted as expected but the meetings have been fantastic and likely to result in strong sales/marketing opportunities. (Today I bonded with the publisher of a new sci-fi/fantasy magazine, "SciFi Now." We both have the BSG miniseries on our i-pods and endless theories about the final 5 cylons. I'm trying to convince him that a tribute to SG-1 and more coverage of Jensen Ackles are an imperative. I can't say that will result in anything meaningful for my business but it sure will result in a happy Saturn. *g*)

    • I'm missing Criminal Minds and Supernatural this week. In exchange, I can tell you all about the death of that cricket coach in Jamaica (I keep saying Quiddich) and the new UK budget and 2p tax break. I'm not quite sure that's a fair trade.
Has anyone noticed that I don't post anything of substance these days? It's not that I actually anything substantive to say tonight, either, but I've almost entirely gotten away from saying anything about me in anything more than off-hand after thoughts. What can I tell you? The manager who quit is only with us through Friday which means I need that job posting up soon. (As in yesterday.) I'm hoping that since it's a manager position, a variety of people will step up and apply (and that at least one of them will be qualified). My trainer couldn't meet until 7pm tonight so I'll be up way past my bedtime as I try to wind down. I'm leaving for London on Saturday night and am only a week away from my date with Dan Radcliffe in Equus. Oh, how about this? My car registration expires on 4/18 but I can't get Michigan registration without my Florida documentation and I can't find it anywhere. I can write to the Collier County Tax Collector for a duplicate but that will take longer than I have before it expires which complicates everything. I want a personal assistant. Or a life manager. Someone who takes care of the details...bills, hair cut appointments, car registration.

Does all of that count as substance? Because I'm ready to talk about Stargate.

This is actually a pre-Unending post as I'm many episodes behind on SG-1 and likely won't see Unending until some point in April or, perhaps, when it actually airs on Sci-Fi. It's one of those things where I don't want to rush it so I'm waiting and waiting and waiting. Anyway. I started watching SG-1 less than a year ago and it's hard to believe both how fast I fell and that it's already over. (In fact, an archive search shows that, April 26, 2007 I wrote, "I'm watching SG-1 out of order as it airs on Sci-Fi in the evenings and I've enjoyed every episode I've seen. What a great show! It's in my netflix queue...I may have to move it up the line." If only I knew that would translate into devouring NINE SEASONS of television in 12 weeks.) I probably feel a bit like the 'Nsync fans who found them just prior to the hiatus. (Hahahaha! Hiatus. How silly we were.) [livejournal.com profile] paian just recently said, in fandom the weekly adventures never end. It is, thankfully, so true but I'm greedy and I want MORE than two TV movies. And then I think of other TV show endings like ST:TNG or West Wing where I felt like I was saying good-bye to family. This is different. It's not the same kind of nostalgic, aching good-bye. (And don't tell me I'm the only one who hurts when series end.) It's simply that I just got started. I haven't even had a chance yet to lament about the good ol' days of seasons past. My "remember whens" are six months old. I want more Daniel.

I see that Shanks was cast as a recurring character on 24! That's not Daniel and it adds another show to my roster but I'm very happy for him. It's one hell of a nice transition (though I do hold out hope for occasional Atlantis visits).

And on the topic of season 4 Atlantis )

ETA: It's Pi day and [livejournal.com profile] notpoetry is sponsoring a math porn challenge! *sigh* Math and porn are a perfect combination.
A slew of hot, hot Daniel caps from 10x15 )

Cookies and love to anyone who's up for making me an icon of this one. *dies*

How did I not know that 03x20 was the SEASON FINALE of SGA? I mean, yes, the end was a season finale size cliff hanger but I just sort of ASSUMED there would be more next week. How many months do we have to wait for more???

In other news, the bank who has the loan on my car is running a scam to bilk extra money out of cash challenged customers. "We know it's tough to catch up on your holiday bills so, for a processing fee of $65, you can skip this month's payment and tack it on to the end. No penalties." I'm calling you on your scam, Suntrust!!
    'The Shroud.' Alsdkfjldskfs! )

West Wing writers! There's a West Wing AU ficathon with your name on it. Put Bartlett in office when the Stargate program resumes. Or have Sam bump into Dean in a lonely roadside diner after a long night out on the campaign trail. How about CJ and Laura Roslin after the BSG crew finds Earth!?! OMG, yes! Write that one! CJ and Laura Roslin. It's perfect.

There's all sorts of Stargate type news today!

The titles of the SG-1 movies were revealed! It makes it all the more real that we'll still have some form of SG-1 at some point in the fall. I'm so hopeful that RDA will make himself available and have a substantial part.

Stargate Atlantis season 4 cast changes. More on that... )

[livejournal.com profile] charlidos posted the transcript from a Starburst Magazine interview with Flanigan. He's so serious about his craft. *g* (There are very vague spoilers in the interview.)

Unrelated to any incarnation of Stargate, a colleague gave me a laser pointer as a holiday gift and it's resulted in hours of fun with Sally. Initially I worried that I was torturing my poor cat with that little dot of light but she sits and stares at the wall just waiting for it to come back. On her best days, she gets a full 3 1/2 feel off the ground as he hunts the laser. It's adorable and FUNNY.
