I was in the VIP section today for Justin’s Today Show appearance.

Can you fucking believe it? I can’t. There is an angel watching over me.

Sleeping out all night

First of all, sleeping on 48th Street all night in 28 degree weather sucks. It sucks in more ways than I can even describe. I got to Rockefeller Center at 8pm. By 9pm, the first 8 of us there formed a line. Six of us started talking and got friend. One girl had a radio (thank god) so we played Justified, her burned copy of Blowin’ Me Up, and the radio all night long. The people I was hanging with were beyond sweet. We all cuddled, shared blankets and laughed. A lot. But it was cold. And I was exhausted. Many times during the night I said I was going to give up and go home but they convinced me to stay. I even managed to sleep for about an hour and a half on the cold sidewalk. Never again.

Getting our spots/sound check

At 6am we were finally able to go to the barricades in the plaza. We all thought we’d be right on the side but they placed us just behind the VIP section. We were the first row of people who weren’t VIP’s but we were very disappointed because we’d waited out all night and these VIP people were going to block our view. What about the little people?

That section was pretty much empty during the sound check so we had a view that a little farther away than we were hoping but it was basically unobstructed. Justin came out in a full on warm up/snow suit looking thing. He was bundled up and adorable. His nose was red from the cold. Justin ran through both LILY and Cry Me a River. It was fun to see him on stage checking track and mic levels. He was extremely focused. And, as he kept mentioning, cold. We wanted to tell him that we knew all about being cold after being outside for the past 10 hours.

Getting into VIP

Three of the girls I made friends with and I were all at the front of the section behind VIP. We were trying hard not to be bitter about the people in VIP but it was difficult after the long night we had. Two middle aged couples in very nice clothing walked into the VIP section and we sighed because we knew that we probably cared about the VIP performance a hell of a lot more than they did. I called one of the men over and asked if he could please not stand in the center of the section because it completely obstructed our view. We started talking and I explained that we had been waiting since 8pm the night before and eventually he introduced himself as an staffer from NBC San Antonio. I told him about my grandfather’s 40 years with NBC and we said our goodbyes.

A few minutes later, he brought the other gentleman over to my and asked me to tell him my story about my grandfather. I did. And again, we said out goodbyes. About 20 minutes later, the first man came over and offered us some pastries and we started talking some more about Justin and our excitement about seeing him. I was pretty enthusiastic. J He walked away and, a few minutes later, came back and asked me how many people were in my group. I told him that there were four of us. I saw him walk inside to talk to some people and, next thing I knew, he came back with 4 VIP pass.

It turns out that his friend (the second gentleman) is a big wig at NBC and pulled some strings to get us into the VIP section. Weeeeeeeeeeee!

It really was incredible. One of the girls I was with actually started to cry, she was so excited. The little people got their day!

Justin’s Televised Performance

I don’t know what you thought when/if you watched it on TV but he was incredible. Just fan-fucking-tastic on stage. I was blown away. Serious Justin issues right now. The boy’s got it. And I love the choreography for Cry Me a River.

How it ended

After Justin’s performance we went over to thank the NBC guys and their wives. They asked if we’d like to take our picture on the stage. The crew was taking the stage down and the big wig got the crew to stop so that we could stand on the stage and take our picture. *thud* What a feeling! We also took pictures with the NBC men for memories.

Then, the woman in charge of the concert series came over to introduce herself and give us her card. She said that we obviously made an impression and if we ever want to come back to see a concert in the plaza, we should call her for VIP passes. November- Tim McGraw- here I come!

So, overall, an unbelievable experience. I’m still in shock. Fucking amazing.

I’m picking up my pictures at lunch and I ordered a CD so I’ll share the good ones. *fingers crossed* We also have some on a digital camera so I’m waiting for those, too.

*sigh* I’m feeling quite grateful today.
