ode to the old school club show...

So. Lou Rawls!

The seats were great, the company was perfect, and Lou was magnificent. He was charming and funny and his voice melts me even more in person. What's more, he sang "Fine Brown Frame," my absolute favorite song that he's recorded.

The night was everything I needed. Except, perhaps, for the drunk/high girl right by the stage doing her own obnoxious version of the seat dance. Her boyfriend (or brother, depending who's opinion you listen to) needed to tie her arms to her chair. I'm surprised Lou didn't whack her over the head with his microphone.

After the show, Cel and I went out for a drink with the percussionist in the band. He had some fun anecdotes but, other than an appreciation for Lou Rawls, we seem to have very different interests. And we need to let Kyan loose on his hair.

On Tuesday, when I buy Britney's album (shut up!), I'm also going to pick up "Rawls Sings Sinatra."

Okay. Bed. I'm exhausted.

Lance! I had no idea that he was co-hosting the AMA pre-show. I thought we'd just get a brief interview of something.

But we have Lance interviewing Britney, et al. Nice!

I can't believe that Dick Clark is going to subject the American public to a Hillary Duff performance.

I will never, ever understand Hillary Duff mania. Never.

I'm just beside myself with glee.

round up of the non-spoilerish variety...

- I don't mind JC's outfit. I can even deal with the grease monkey hair. But he really needs to shave that thing off his face.

- I'm sick of the "Reuben eats Clay" jokes. Enough already.

- I'm continue to like Pink more and more. Her performance was fantastic. Just raw and simply and dead on.

- Hillary Duff needs to go away. Maybe even more than JC needs to shave.

- Tim McGraw. That's all. Just...Tim.

I also watched Britney's dateline interview during the AMA's. She's all kinds of confused and confusing. Sometimes I forget how young she is and growing up in the spotlight doesn't change that. But is she really that naive? And, if you're going to write a song about masturbation, be prepared to speak about it. After all this time, I think Britney still needs media training. Or perhaps she's projecting exactly what she wants to.

I can't/shouldn't eat ice cream so I rarely do. But I just did. Cold stone. Very, very good.
