Here I am in our corporate offices where no one is permitted to eat at their desks. Nothing. Nada. The big compromise is that staff is now permitted to drink at their desks provided the liquid is in a container with a lid. Sippy cups are okay. Soda cans are not.
What's developed is a sort of underground candy bartering system. Candy is hidden at people's desks. Everyone knows who has it. A power structure seems to be developing based on the ability to store and distribute candy covertly. Anything that can be eaten in one bit is a hot commodity. It it can be eaten in one bite and does not come in a wrapper (e.g. M&Ms), it's even more valuable because we can't throw wrappers in the trash. They must be stored for disposal outside of the office lest TPTB check trash can.
No, I'm not kidding. (Though I did dare to break the rules and I have a few crackers hidden at my desk. Must be careful with crumbs...)
Completely unrelated...has anyone heard of Gemstone IV? It's an on-line fantasy role play game. A co-worker cooked dinner for me last night and we ended up in a long conversation about this game that she's been playing for more than 8 years. She gave me a demo and it's very interesting but not so much my thing. I've never been one for RPGs. I did find a Gemstone LJ community, though. Afterward, I gave her a tour of LJ complete with a look at my site and an explanation of slash and OTPs. Turns out she writes het erotica. My on-line world is getting smaller and smaller. Kind of scary.
