Is it Superman or Spiderman? And what does that say about our agility as a nation?

** Quick question. Is child support considered taxable income?

** I'm going to see Laura Linney in Sight Unseen on July 3rd. She's my favorite actress and I love that she does Broadway every year or so. The last thing I saw her in was "The Crucible" with Liam Neeson. I can't wait! (When I have tickets to see a specific actor in a play or musical I always get nervous that they'll be out that day. You can get a refund if the actor's name is above the marquee but it doesn't mean that tickets for another date will be available. It's a limited run, though, so I'm going to assume it's unlikely she'll call out.)

** Looking at Mary-Kate recently, it's no surprise that she's getting treatment for anorexia. I wish the kid well. She's got a rough couple of months ahead of her. And I'll be very interested to read the book Mary-Kate and Ashley write in 20 years. I'm sure they've got a hell of a story to tell.

** Spiderman 2 tonight. I'm not a huge Spiderman fan but I hear the second movie is better than the first. This week's Newsweek has a cover story on the film. They write about the superhero as a symbol of the United States. Superman is what we want to be - "broad shouldered, unconflicted, virtually indestructible," while Spiderman is what we are post 9/11 - "He's burdened by self-doubt. He wants to do the right thing, but isn't always sure what that is. He's constantly force to choose between helping others and helping himself. He looks tough, but he's easily injured." That all makes sense but it also takes the tone of college paper - turn in 8 pages on the the U.S. as compared to the the superhero archtype. I'm just looking for entertainment. Spiderman is not my outlet for political metaphors and commentary. We've got Michael Moore for that.
So fandom_wank is gone.

A nice little play by play is right here.

I can't imagine it will last. I imagine it will reappear one day with little mention of disappearing which would be wank worthy, in and of itself, and amuse me very much.
