[livejournal.com profile] stargems and [livejournal.com profile] loveisimmortal force me to actively avoid the addiction every time they post about GH. 1990- 1999 were my years and I'm fighting the urge to rejoin the mania. There's only so much one fangirl can handle.

At lunch today, however, Cel did drag me down into her soap induced psychosis and let me relive some of my favorite moments. My top three in no particular order because I could never choose:

1) "I can see you, Robin!" Do you remember watching that boy die? It was built up and melodramatic and climaxed with the return of Stone's sight just he died. Robin drove me nuts near the end but I was still puffy eyed for hours after.

2) Lily blows up in slow motion. It was perfect. Lily walking to the car. Opening the door. The explosion and slow rise of the flames taking Lily and her unborn child. Sonny's reaction. And, of course, the knowledge that deep down Brenda was dancing a jig.

3) Brenda wears a wire. Oh, the betrayal! The events set in motion by that one action are still in play. Sonny's rage and Brenda's naive incomprehension of what she'd done were as good as it gets.

Honorable mention goes to Lucy, Kevin, and the duck. They were my favorite daytime threesome.

EDIT: [livejournal.com profile] lovelypoet reminded me of #4 which I can't believe I forgot. BJ's death! And then giving her heart to Maxie! The drama and tears!
From the current issue of Rolling Stone, this article about Dick Cheney is horrifying. I've always thought he was the most frightening member of our administration but this brings it home.

In an overwhelmingly Republican state, Cheney now had a safe seat in Congress for as long as he wanted. On Capitol Hill, he combined a moderate demeanor with a radical agenda. People who find Cheney's extremism as vice president surprising have not looked at his congressional voting record. In 1986, he was one of only twenty-one members of the House to oppose the Safe Drinking Water Act. He fought efforts to clean up hazardous waste and backed tax breaks for energy corporations. He repeatedly voted against funding for the Veterans Administration. He opposed extending the Civil Rights Act. He opposed the release of Nelson Mandela from jail in South Africa. He even voted for cop-killer bullets.
