Today was just, god, it was this crazy surreal day. I woke up in the middle of the night and I was overwhelmed by the sound of the wind and rain. The power went out just before 6:30am. Shortly after the phone lines went out as well as my cell phone connection which meant no power, no phone, no internet. I napped for a while but, once I woke up, I did my best to connect to people through text messages and to get some news through my battery powered radio. Holy cow BORING. Boring. I kept hearing about the 3.2 million homes without power and the weeks it would take to restore power and, wow, that sounded horrible. Somewhere in all of this I read printed fic and ate 1/2 a jar of peanut butter (yum) and resigned myself to more of this because my office is closed tomorrow. Right around 8:30pm when I was nearing despondent because it was dark and I was trying desperately to interest myself in a book by flashlight, four coworkers led by one who lives in my community knocked on my door and spirited me away to a home with PEOPLE and LANTERNS and BEER. And it was good. The power came on a short time ago but I have food for tomorrow and will probably stay close to home since the office is still closed. The moral of this story is that I will never underestimate hurricanes and I will NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF ELECTRICITY ever again. Ever. Again.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] powrhug and [livejournal.com profile] kiffle for the the texts and calls to my corporate hotline for work updates and posting in my absence. You did wonders for my sanity. Seriously.

Our office was officially closed today but I got called in and, wow, the day was crap. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so paranoid about detailing things like why today was crap but I am so, instead, I'm going to do my best to turn off my brain until it starts again tomorrow morning. I can't even wear my "Department of Magical Law Enforcement" medallion these days.

* [livejournal.com profile] mctabby kicked this year's Harry Potter friending frenzy into gear yesterday. It's already at 4500+ comments and LJ's limit is 5000 so, if you want to play, you're running out of time.

* Similarly, [livejournal.com profile] marishna is hosting a multi-fandom friending frenzy for those of us looking to expand our friends list in more than one fandom.

* This fun interview with George Eads was posted on [livejournal.com profile] oh_no_nicky. He's so humble and grounded!

* [livejournal.com profile] idlerat created this cracked out and absurdly endearing SGA screen-cap comic: John and Rodney Love Mice

* [livejournal.com profile] trixiesfic wrote SGA! Battle Hangover McKay/Sheppard. Pre-slash, post-seige. John thinks there are a hundred platitudes he can offer-- they didn't die in vain, war is like that, they signed up knowing they might not make it back-- but Rodney's not military and it's all bullshit anyway. Instead, John does what he can, digging his fingers into the worst of the knots in Rodney's neck, and smiling when Rodney groans and drops his head forward. It's a lovely read.

* And, OMG, SQUEEEEE! [livejournal.com profile] iscaris is writing a Harry Potter/CSI crossover! Chaos Theory Harry/Draco, Gil/Nick, PG-13. "That black haired kid, he gave his name as..." Brass consulted his notebook, "Harry Potter. He says he's seventeen. No ID to back it up, though. He was surprisingly cooperative – more than can be said about his blond pal, who refused to give us his name and kept calling me a filthy muddle, of all things. I mean, really. I'm not the world's most organized person, but was that necessary?" This is the best. idea. EVER!

* [livejournal.com profile] charlidos created a mpg of the SGA DVD behind the scenes look at the making of Seige I and Seige II which I uploaded to share the love.

Mission Directive: The Siege part 1 and 2 112mb, mpg

* I also have an LJ question. Do paid accounts get 100 userpics? I got one of those e-mails saying that my 100 userpics are running out but I thought that all paid users get 100 icons. Am I remembering incorrectly? I forgot that I have a permanent account. I'm going to assume the e-mail was automatic and an error.

ETA: AHAHAHAHAHAHA! abcnew.com put together video clips of reporters falling and flailing as they try to report in the midst of Wilma.
