• DOD Budget Cuts Shutter Top-Secret Project

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., March 31 — The imposing rock face of Cheyenne Mountain is best known to the world as NORAD, the U.S. government's primary control center in the event of nuclear war. But for more than a decade, whispers and rumors reaching from amateur sites on the Internet to the highest corridors of power have suggested that the complex housed another, more secret operation dedicated to national defense. Now, for the first time, inside members of that project have come forward to confirm its existence — and protest its impending closure. [More]

  • In the roundup for my Sunday [livejournal.com profile] house_notice posting, I found a House/SPN crossover with established relationship Allison Cameron/Dean Winchester. That's just WRONG. Dean and Allison Cameron. In an established relationship.

  • All EW readers know that the magazine has an ongoing love affair with Battlestar Galactica. (In fact, I wish I'd clipped all of their BSG mentions this season because there were many.) The 3/30 issue has an interview with Mary McDonnell that's worth it even if only for the photo. It's a quick two pages and I'm happy to scan it when I'm back in MI if anyone's interested. In the meantime, ew.com has separate interviews with MMD, EJO and RDM here. Beware of spoilers for the season 3 finale.

  • I spent last night with [livejournal.com profile] stargems and was fully indoctrinated into the world of NCAA basketball and the final four. I am, officially, a Gators basketball fan with particular affection for Joakin Noah. Really, though, how can you resist the story of five starters who win the championship and pass on the NBA draft for a year so they can come back to defend their title? And they all live together! There have got to be a handful of girls on that campus writing basketball slash. This team is begging for it.

  • My family went out for an amazing Mexican dinner on the north shore of Long Island tonight. It's an upscale place run by two chefs who were formerly with Rosa Mexicano in Manhattan. ([livejournal.com profile] runerinrun, [livejournal.com profile] mac_girl, [livejournal.com profile] stargems...I, of course, thought of our fabulous dinner out.) The table side guacamole was perfect, the entrees were better than perfect, and they finished off the night with a bag of churros for the table. I ate twice my body weight in food, though, and I'm anxious for tomorrow morning when I won't be quite this full.
