We had 10 1/2 inches of snow on New Year's Eve followed by 2 inches last night and then another inch or so today. I'm getting the hang of this, though. I was outside at 6:15am digging out my driveway thanks to the gift of 2 1/2 feet of compact ice the snow plow left me. It's still clean and pristine and cold enough that nothing's melting off the trees yet. This is the perfect week to be home on vacation curled up with a blanket and a book.
stargems has come and gone and I miss her already. I dropped her off at 7:15am and then headed to the gym followed by a trip to the mechanic for an oil change and then the post office to finally send the promised movie posters from the new Star Trek film to
halowrites,
callsigns, and
mickeym. Now, as noted above, Sally and I are curled up on my living room couch all cozy and most decidedly not at work.
I've already made my way through another four episodes of Bones and I also finished The Trouble With Physics by Lee Smolin. He definitely brings his anti-string bias to the book but it's a really compelling look at both the fundamental problems with string theory and, more than that, why the field's obsession with string theory is endangering the development of theoretical physics. (
babygotbass - There's a lot in here about the sociology of scientific communities that I think you'd enjoy and relate to. I thought of you when I read the chapter about the politics of science academia.)
Next up, I have a metric ton of fic to read as well as The Time Traveler's Wife, Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, and Basic Black by Cathie Black.
