Bob Ryan, of The Boston Globe, wrote a column for today's sports section of The New York Times. It was a very interesting perspective on Cubs fans and Red Sox fans and the difference between supporting a team that rarely does well and a team that almost always brings it home but never quite gets there. And I quote, "The issue is how many times your team has raised your hopes, only to have some dramatic or illogical even leave you at the mythical alter. No people in American sports have had their dreams ruthlessly crushed - no pun intended - more than those who have invested their emotional energy in following the Boston Red Sox." And he went on to say that only true Red Sox fans can really identify with Cubs fans right now simply because of the 8th inning intervention in game 6 that affected the Cubs' destiny. Regardless of team loyalties, because mine are clearly with the Yankees, it was a great column about the touched on the anatomy of a fan.

China sent a man into orbit. For 21 hours. We mock but we shouldn't. The US was lagging behind the USSR in the 50's after an embarrassing number of failures in the race to space. Politics and a desire to be 1st motivated us and kicked our asses into gear. Now that China's sent someone up, I have a feeling they'll kick it into gear full force.

My piercing is whole again. And it was surprisingly easy. The had the exact sparkly blue ball I needed. And I got a plain silver ball, too, so that I'm prepared if this happens again. Something so trivial should not cause so much angst. But it's so damn pretty. And sparkly!

There was a kid asleep or passed out on the subway platform at 59th St. He looked about 17 or 18 yrs old. Everyone just walked by. I keep thinking about him. Was he asleep? If he was sleeping, why there? Was he passed out? Was he unconscious? Was he dead? It disturbs me that we're all so jaded that we'll walk by a young man who's passed out on the floor of the subway platform. It's not my problem but a big part of me thinks it should be.

Now I want to read that fic I was thinking about all day. And, oh! [livejournal.com profile] lilysaid wrote a hot little AU Trickyfish. Check it out. Love the power play.
