I'm pretty sure that I rec this story often. But I read it even more often than I rec it. It's probably my favorite popslash story. The words and the imagery swallow me whole. The emotion of it all is huge and real and the story always makes me feel. I love it deeply.
So, in the event that someone hasn't read it: Nobody's Birthday by Merry.
And, if you have read it, it's always worth another read.
Joey doesn't say anything but his hands are flat against the windows on either side of JC's head, and his breath fans out over JC's cheek, damp and warm. JC shivers, and Joey presses closer and one hand comes down to JC's jaw and stays there. He moves slow, so slow, and JC has time to think about it, how easy it would be to duck his head and misunderstand and laugh like Joey was teasing, but Joey isn't teasing and JC, God, he really doesn't want him to be. He can't let him be.
If a story could be a song, this would be it.

It seems that Pet's "Ballad of Joey and JC" is still in development and all reports indicate that it's coming along nicely. When it's done, we really will have a song.
And that's about all I've got.
