** Of all the scenes that were cut, the one I'd have picked to leave in was Saruman's last scene. As [livejournal.com profile] dj_writes noted, Christopher Lee's indignation was quite justified.

** Eowyn, Eowyn, blah, blah, blah. I still don't like her until the battle at Pelennor Fields. From then on, though, I'm all about the woman. And I'm so glad they added the scenes at the houses of healing with Faramir.

** And, about Faramir, I'm even more drawn to him now. You can't help but feel for him. Those scenes with Denethor are painful to watch.

** I thought the deleted scenes did a lot for Merry and Pippin. Merry's scene with Aragorn after Pippin rides to Minis Tirith was great and adding the house of healing scene before Pippin finds Merry added so much to the moment because we had that sense of time passing after the battle.

** I loved Gimli on the paths of the dead/in the haunted mountain. He was absolutely priceless when he was blowing at the ghosts and walking over the skulls. I also really liked the scene when they come out of the mountain and Aragorn sees the ships. That hopelessness was gripping.

** My favorite added Sam scene was in the company of the orcs. "What do I do?" "What do I do?"

There are some scenes from the original cut that still make me weep. The Beacons of Gondor and "You bow to no one" top the list. [livejournal.com profile] hetrez captured my exact sentiment about the beacons scene. I still have the extras to watch but the movie itself leaves me pretty raw so I think some "Desperate Housewives" is in order.

ETA: Okay, I'll never get this. Where the heck to those elf boats actually go? And what's there? I've been meaning to get an answer to this for ages.
