plant life...
A few years ago, my mother bought my grandmother a banzai tree for her birthday. She freaked out and insisted that my mother take it back. Then she ranted for a while about the importance of checking with someone first before you get them a gift that's alive. So, she's crazy and we move on.
Cut to this holiday season. A co-worker bought me an orchid as a holiday gift. The orchid's name is Miss Priscilla and she's absolutely gorgeous. She's also dying because OMG I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO CARE FOR A PLANT AND YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY THINK ABOUT THE RECIPIENT'S SKILL SET BEFORE BUYING THEM A GIFT THAT'S ALIVE.
I still maintain, however, that my grandmother is crazy. Just not regarding that particular item.
