everest - the final toll...

Tim commented that the one thing he learned is that getting to the summit is only half the trip. WHAT THE FUCK? I sit on my ass in my house and read about climbing and even I know that 80% of the fatalities on Everest are on the way down. Even I know that climbers tend to use all of the energy to summit and are left with insufficient reserves to make it down safely. How is it possible that this guy is there - on Everest - and making a comment like that. Shouldn't that understanding be part of Everest 101? It's crazy.
