Four interviews down, seven to go. (That is, of course, until I call the back the rest of the potential interviewees and schedule some more.) It's going well, though. And, although it may not seem like a natural connection, sorority recruitment prepared me very well for interviews- both sides of the process.

1) Learn to shake hands. Learn to shake hands firmly and confidently. It matters.

2) Dress professionally. Even if the corporate culture is business casual, it is unlikely you'll be perceived as overdressed for an interview if you wear a suit. You can easily be perceived as underdressed.

3) When you are asked, "Do you have any questions about the position that I haven't already answered," think of something to say besides, "Are you strict about arriving at work on time?"

4) If a Greek life connection comes up (i.e. you were in a sorority/fraternity, so was I), don't mention the joys of hazing. Ever. Ever, ever.

5) When asked, "What interested you in this position," never answer, "I've been looking for a job since I graduated college in May and I'm ready to take anything." Bad, bad answer.

6) Bring additional copies of your resume. And print them on professional resume paper. That white printer paper just doesn't cut it.

7) If you read the job description and you know you aren't interested in the position don't waste my time by coming in for an interview. Please. I'm begging you.

Yeah. That's it for now. It's been a long day.

And wouldn't you think that all of this is pretty damn obvious? #4...come on now!
