My absentee ballot never arrived.

My state will go to Kerry. Senator Schumer will be reelected. That's not the point. The point is that I want to vote. I WANT TO VOTE.

I'm frustrated and I'm sad. I have strong opinions and I want my vote counted. I want my vote counted.

Someone in the NY office didn't receive her ballot so she's driving to PA today. Right now, my only option is to get on a plane and vote in NY which isn't really an option at this point. I heard that this is happening to a lot of people and I shouldn't feel guilty because I made an effort but I do feel guilty. And disconnected.

I feel like I lost my right to invest in the outcome the same way I could if I actually voted. I'm so disappointed.
[livejournal.com profile] shamrock_kid suggested I call 1-866-OURVOTE and [livejournal.com profile] dpfreak gave me some information suggesting that I can fill out a provisional ballot. I called the hotline and someone at the NY Board of Elections confirmed that, unfortunately, there was nothing they can do but I'm free to file a complaint. As a last ditch effort, I found out where my FL polling place is and went by after work. Sadly, they confirmed that there's no way I can vote unless I go back to NY tonight. But I tried. And, as many of you kindly mentioned, I tried to vote and that counts for something. So I'll settle in and hope, hope, hope that Kerry pulls through. At least I know my state will go his way. The exit polls are making my nauseous.

[livejournal.com profile] stargems...I'm going to call you at 10pm. We may not be in the same state for our election night party but I'm not going through this without you.

Now I think I'll search for some Weasleycest to take my mind off the election for a while. [livejournal.com profile] fluffylama posted a snippet of Bill/Charlie that put me in the mood.
