I'm frustrated on many levels this morning but, topping the list, is the disconnect I feel with the majority of voters who think George Bush is the right man to lead our country. The disconnect I feel with these same voters who are electing, in alarming numbers, to define love for all of us. To define the morals of our country on their poor and misguided interpretation of the words of God.
The world is not safe. Our jobs are not safe. Our future has never been more uncertain. This is a time when we could come together and unify but instead we choose to divide. Instead, like history before us, we have citizens who choose to elevate themselves above others to feel safer. As long as two men and two women can't get married, we're all safer. It may not be thought on a conscious level but it's a pattern. Terrorists are taking schools hostage. The morals of the world are in trouble. Let's do something about it. We've seen this before. Unfortunately, it's false security. And, unfortunately, we don't have a leader who can slow this growing tide. We have a leader who will help perpetuate it.
First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

Our bodies. Our minds. Our freedom. It's so easy to let the little freedoms slip away one by one until they're all gone and we hardly noticed it happen. I don't know how so many people are blind to that. Or simply choose not to see it out of fear. I'm not sure where we go from here but I'm certainly not giving up hope. I can't. I just can't.
