You've got to read this. Now.
I am full to the brim with Bev love! Chris!
This interview was done exclusively for The Buzz:// and for fu.manaskeeto.com. I'm posting it here because well, some of the questions pertain to Chris related things and because, well, I can. lol. And because Kim said I could.
Many many thanks to Bev for taking the time out to answer the questions.
1.Tricky Can Chrisify Me asks: I would like to ask her what it felt like for her to be a teenage mother and if she could change anything about that experience..would she?
It was extremely difficult being so young and having no education and a lot of responsibility. If I could change anything, and still have the wonderful kids I have, I would wait until I was older and finished with college before having a family. It would have made for a much better life for them.
2.nsyncsofficialgroupie asked: What is the one thing you want most out of life for your children?
Happiness, and for them to care about others.
3.Friday would like to know: If you've had the opportunity to travel ~ with nsync or not ~ where is your favorite place and why?
Hard to say. I've seen so many wonderful things it would be hard to choose. I loved driving across northern United States and coming home across the south. I also loved my time in Germany and Holland. And then there was Las Vegas, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York, LA, San Diego, ORLANDO, Acapulco, Hawaii, Seattle...guess I just love to travel! lol
4.Debbiedoo writes: They say no one knows their child better than a mother. In your eyes, what have been the most positive and most negative effects *NSYNC has brought upon your son?
No one deserves happiness and success more than Chris. He has worked so hard and is such a good person, I'm really grateful for having the opportunity to be part of his life. I'm thrilled he is financially sound. I'm glad he will never want for a meal, or shelter. He has such a great heart, and he dedicates so much time to helping others--these are just some of the good things he has gotten from his career.
The negative side is, so many people who aren't real around you. They sometimes block out the people who truly care. I worry about the industry and how it treats him--sometimes he is too trusting. I worry about the things all parents worry about, will he misuse alcohol or drugs? Will he find someone to truly love him for himself? Will he get lost in the fame? All of the things your own parents would worry about.
5.FuManKaneki wants to know: Do you see anything happening for your other children in the entertainment industry?
Hmm, well, that's hard to say. They all sing, but they don't all want to be in the business. I look for Taylor to release a single early next year, and I'm trying to talk Emily into recording one song for me. Molly sings opera like an angel, but doesn't crave the spotlight, so I think Avery will be the only one to hear the most beautiful lullabies. Kate just wants to sit back and write tell-all books about the others. (Ha,ha)
6.Lizziek1017 has a couple questions to choose from: Did Chris or any of your children do anything really funny/embarrassing when they were little? Anything funny/embarrassing recently? Do share the details. Or, if not that one then: Did you ever want to be a famous singer?
Everything Chris did when he was little was funny. He learned at a very early age to get attention by going for laughs. (Much to his teacher's dismay) Probably the most embarrassing was the day he was out on our balcony in National City, Calif. showing his sister how far he could pee. He was about 3 1/2 . (Trouble was, the neighbor's "Not too bright" kids were standing on underneath on their patio getting wet!) The father came out yelling, and I had to snatch my kids up and run in the apartment before I started laughing! Then there was the time when he was getting a childhood shot and after the nurse gave it to him, he fell to the floor and started convulsing. The nurse pushed the panic button, but my sister said, "Chris, stop that and get off that floor!" He got up and walked out of the room, leaving the nurse very shaken! The now famous potty training story is my favorite. Chris wouldn't use the potty unless, when he stood up, we would clap while he bowed! I knew he HAD to be on stage!
I have never wanted to be a famous anything. I just like being me. And I already AM a singer. I just don't do it for money. I believe there are too many people out there trying to be FAMOUS instead of trying to be SINGERS, or musicians, or trying to be good at what they're doing. If a person's main focus is fame or money, they are definitely in the business for the wrong reasons. Real musicians just have to perform. Whether it's in a stadium full of people, or for the neighbors, they have to do it. It's part of who they are. That's why I hate to see so many kids pushed into entertainment at a young age. If the kid didn't drag you there, you shouldn't drag them! Karen Chasez's story about Josh getting into the biz is a perfect example of great parenting. When he came home and said he wanted to audition for MMC, she was quite surprised! He hadn't really let her know he was interested in singing and dancing! As good parents, she and Roy supported him in his pursuit of that career, but didn't push him or lead him there. He was allowed to find his own calling. How wonderful is that? How many kids do you see in dance classes, or taking voice lessons, or playing soccer with anxious parents on the sidelines prodding them to smile, or look cute, or play more aggressively? Theses are usually parents who want those things for themselves, but since they didn't or couldn't make it, they live it through their children. Big mistake.
7.CartoonCartoon is cheating with two:Was there ever a time where she saw Chris becoming too caught up in the 'fame' of NSYNC? How did she keep him grounded...how did she keep the whole family grounded and close? I know that's more than one question...but...the first goes with the second so nicely!
Well, I guess there were a few moments, but nothing more. He's a down-to-earth person about life. And as for "How did I keep him grounded?" He's an adult. Just like you guys, your parents can only tell you what they think--they can't live your lives for you. He keeps himself well grounded. But if he didn't, I doubt anything I would say would change it! LOL
The family doesn't get caught up in the fame thing. We understand how dangerous that is--for ourselves AND for Chris. We try to standback and let him do his thing, so when he wants to be Chris, our son or brother, he can feel free to do that. We aren't his fans, we are his FAMILY. Family will always love him--we know who he is, and he is safe there, we will always love him, even if 'N Sync ends, and he becomes something else. We expect nothing more from him than that he be a good brother, a good uncle, a good son. Fame is a narcotic, and far too many families get caught up in it and actually believe it's about THEM. It's not. And in my opinion, those families do nothing but harm themselves AND their children!
8.illblancesgrl asks: This question might sound corny but 'How has Chris changed ever since he knew that *Nsync would make it big till now that he is taking his break?'
I think his focus has changed. When Justin first announced his intention to do a solo project, I think Chris and the other guys kept focused on 'N Sync. Now that Justin is out there, and we're not sure what will happen, I think Chris realizes that he needs to keep walking forward with his own music, and is really focused on his writing--both for 'N Sync AND for Chris' rock group. (Although 'N Sync is still is first love, and I doubt that will ever change!)
9.Crazy4Chris would like to know: How have you found strength through the troubled times in your life?
I'm an eternal optimist. I believe in the good in people, and that things are meant to work out, they just get fouled up sometimes. I'm not sure it's strength. Sometimes I think I'm just to stupid to fall down when life deals me a blow!
10.Shy4chey asks: What's been the hardest thing you've had to deal with, with having a famous son. And what do you wish for your own future?
Sharing him with the world, especially during private, family moments. Fame is not all that it's cracked up to be!!!
For my future? Hmmmm, I'm too busy to think that far ahead!
11. Gabrielle writes: Since you have been there from the beginning, what do you think has been the single most important thing to Chris in the history of NSYNC?
Meeting Josh, Joey, Lance and Justin! They were like the brothers he never had.
12. CrazeeSpain asked: Wanna be my mother in law?
I don't think the eternal kid is ready to settle down just yet. But I'll certainly let you know. Do you like candy and video games???(lol)
13. Erika a.k.a. FuHoney asks:What advise would you give to young mothers?
Get an education or skill. Don't have more kids until you're older. Remember, now that you child/children is/are here, THEY must be your primary focus. For much of your life. You can't be a child anymore, and you MUST put them first! And don't expect your mother, or others, to raise your child. That's YOUR job. You chose to bring them into this world!
14. freakin addicted to fu wants to know: What has been one of the most profound life-changing epiphanies that you've had and how did it make your life more meaningful?
Ouch, actually, when my husband, Rob, died, that was the moment my life changed forever.
On the good side of things, the most profound life-changing epiphanies were: Oct. 17, 1971, March 14, 1974, September 25, 1976, July 23, 1982 and September 18, 1992. Oh, and July 6th. (My children's birthdates and the day I married Todd!)
I think it's interesting that she calls JC, "Josh." I didn't realize people called him that. I also picked up on her comment about the future of 'Nsync. I'll spare you my editorial except to say that her comment didn't surprise me.
I just loved Bev's insights into her son. I'm so grateful she shared this with the fans.
