This was about as perfect as a weekend gets and just what I needed before I face work tomorrow.
eleanor_lavish and
canadiankracka arrived at 12:30pm yesterday along with
o4fuxache and
gingerbaby. After planting their things at my place, we headed to a Mexican restaurant on the Upper West Side for a fabulous lunch complete with drinks and desert. From there, we stopped in at The Museum of Natural History. It's a nice perk when one of our group happens to work there and has comp tickets waiting at the ticket counter for us. We saw a leapord man and vultures and dinosaurs and meteorites and the big whale. Then we hit Troy.
I haven't read The Iliad or The Odessey since college so I wasn't tied to plot details or worried about discrepancies. I was looking for a fun summer movie with hot men and that's what I got. In fact, if the only redeeming moment was the scene in the beginning where Orlando is shirtless and glistening and yes...it would have been enough. That said, I was very impressed with Peter O'Toole and Bean. In fact, I think Bean had the best performance of the movie - understated and believable. But, even without that, there was still a whole lot of pretty to enjoy.
After the movie we had a lovely dinner where P and I avoided a battle to the death over the comparative acting skills of Dom and Orlando and then headed to an 80's bar in my neighborhood where we met up with
stargems. I can't believe I haven't noticed this place before. You can order s'mores and chex mix and fluffernutters and all of the martinis come with candy! Great bar. Great company.
The five of us woke up early this morning (after a cramped but slumber party like night at my apartment) to meet
kittenfishlambs at Radio City Music Hall for the PoA premiere. The set up was on the 51st St. side of the theater and, when we arrived, there were already a ton of fans waiting. We set up by some 14/15 year old girls who'd been waiting since 7:30am. At this point it was 10:30am and we had 4 1/2 hours until the actors arrived. It was hot. I mean really, really hot. But the fans were hysterical with their homemade t-shirts and signs and dementors and enthusiasm and we made it to 3pm. Then the actors started arriving and, for a short time, we thought we weren't going to see anything but fate was kind and we got our glimpses of the Trio and Tom and Alan and a few others and left very, very satisfied and a little more certain we're going to hell in that hand basket.
An absolutely fabulous weekend.
