I don't know what happened but all of a sudden, starting this afternoon, I have a crazy number of popups on my computer. It doesn't matter that I'm on sites that never had popups before (like LJ). They just keep coming. And some anti-popup trial program installed itself on my computer and I took it off but now I think that maybe that was stupid because the damn popups won't go away. Why is this happening all of a sudden and what, for the love of God, can I do to make it stop?

EDIT: Thank you LJ! All better. I've installed the Google task bar (http://toolbar.google.com/) and that seems to have done the trick. And it counts the # of pop-ups it blocks. Love it! I'm also now fully versed in Spyware and Adaware.
