There's a commercial running down here in FL that shows a young girl talking about how much her mother and father love her. In the end, we learn that the single unwed birth mother opted to give her child up for adoption so she could have what the mother couldn't provide - the love of a mother and a father. The commercial is sponsored by itsaboutlove.org. The more I see this commercial, the more it frustrates me. It's telling single pregnant women that the best choice they can make for their child is adoption. That the loving choice is to give up a child. I am not knocking adoption. I can't even imagine how difficult it is to give up a child you gave birth to and certainly think there are many children who are better off with adoptive parents. But adoption is not the only choice for a single pregnant woman. There are thousands of wonderful single parent homes and this commercial discounts that entirely. (I won't even get into the argument about
It turns out that "It's About Love" is actually sponsored by a religious group called Provident Living. I respect the right of religious groups to preach their message but I want them to stand up and say who their are while they preach. Particularly because their message is actually about God and morality and not simply about options of single mothers to be.
Less soap boxy...does anyone really think the casting of Voldemort could possibly remain a secret until GoF is released? I've seen tons of cut tags right before and after posts outing the the name of our grand Dark Lord. This is not a detail that can remain a secret. It's Voldemort! Personally, I'm thrilled about the casting. I think he'll be perfect.
