They flew into Ft. Myers on Friday night and, yesterday, we drove to Ft. Lauderdale for the party. If you know south Florida, you know that the route from SW Florida to SE Florida is across Alligator Alley. It's two lanes in each direction split by a big grass ditch/divider. The speed limit is 70 and I'd guess that the average speed on the road is 85. Without traffic, it takes me 1:45 to get to Ft. Lauderdale. We were coasting along yesterday and, just over halfway into the trip, we came to a dead stop. Dead. Stop. For the next two hours, we sat with the top down and the engine off. There was a wreck about 3/4 miles up the road and a guy died so they stopped traffic in both directions until the coroner could come. So, we didn't know if we'd make it to the party (which we did) or how long we'd sit there but there was no complaining because a guy was dead and it's the holidays and I kept thinking about his family and wondering where he was going at the time. Did he have a wife? Kids? How old was he? Who had to call his family? It's was terribly depressing but it made me appreciate my own family that much more when I saw them.

([livejournal.com profile] eleanor_lavish...I was stuck in that traffic with no signal when you called but I'll call tonight or this week and February's great so plan to visit! [livejournal.com profile] apetslife...remember that red outfit I bought when we went to Armani Exchange last year? I finally wore it last night. I don't know what I was waiting for.)

I finally watched this week's West Wing which my mother was kind enough to tape for me and send down with my sister. So. I was underwhelmed with the whole Jed storyline except for the scene with Abby in the bathroom. Their dynamic continues to grip me whether it's his attempt to write a toast for her birthday, their attempts to have sex once his doctors clear him after the shooting, the tension over Sharif after Zoey was kidnapped, and the trust between them. I just believe in their marriage. Josh and Donna on the other hand? Lord. At this point, it's totally fitting that she left like that. He's oblivious and it's getting old. I was also surprised at Leo's reaction. By now I think he'd know what Donna means to Josh even if Josh is too stunted to get it. I do love Josh and Santos together. The moment where Santos got it was perfect. I can't wait to see them together. I hope the writers don't destroy this. Aside from CJ, it's all I have to look forward to this season.

Also West Wing related, I just found [livejournal.com profile] notsosecret, a Josh/Sam community. I don't know why it took me this long to stumble upon it but hopefully the community is fairly active.

Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] mickeym, [livejournal.com profile] babygotbass, [livejournal.com profile] sweatergurl, and [livejournal.com profile] kittenfishlambs for the holiday cards! (Kittenfishlambs...you should come down with El in February. Get on that, will you? ;) )

We were talking about this story the other day and I'm terribly concerned that there are people who haven't read it. Rat's Alley by Fabula Rasa. Despite Snape's moments of sentiment, it's one of my favorite Sirius/Snape stories. Plus, it fulfills my vampire kink beautifully.

And there are some great photos of Orlando floating around. These particularly slay me: here, here and here. Such a pretty boy.

Now I'm preparing to settle in with RotK:EE. 4 hours, huh? I've got just enough time for the movie and some extras.
