I love being a fan. I love being a fan! So much!

Last night was the Holy Frak! BSG at MT&R event and I'm still a gibbering, squealing fangirl.

Note: There are s2 spoilers sprinkled throughout but I clearly note comment about s3 in a separate tag and in the body of the post.

I landed at JFK around 2:30pm and was at the museum by shortly after 4pm. The event was from 6pm - 8pm and the museum staff clearly didn't know what to do with the group of fans milling around the lobby waiting for them to set up an organized queue. In fact, I think they were baffled that people arrived as early as we did. By 5pm they got their act together and I waited near the front of the line with three people I met while we waited for the museum staff to get their act together.

The theater only held 200 people so it was a small little group and we were in the 5th row. Just after 6pm, Jamie, Eddie, Mary, Ron, and David filed in and took their seats in the first row. Mary was stunning in a cleavage bearing hot pink top and Jamie Bamber is, truly, the most attractive man I've ever been in a room with. He's going to be stiff competition for Joe Flanigan and Michael Shanks at the Stargate con in November.

(The museum set up a backdrop for press photos of the actors' entrances. If anyone can find those pictures floating around I'll be impossibly grateful.)

Once they were seated, the EVP of the museum introduced Ronald D. Moore and David Eick so they could, in turn, introduce the episode we were screening - Lay Down Your Burdens Part II. (It was an appropriate choice but inevitably took time from the panel portion because it's a longer episode.) (Now's when I have to get a little fannish about Ron Moore because OMG RON MOORE. Right there. I couldn't get past an image of in him ST:TNG meetings all those years ago.) So, Ron and David gave a bit of background about how proud they were of BSG and appreciative of the fan response before we all watched the episode. At the end, we were treated to a songvid style promo for season 3 which CAN NOT COME SOON ENOUGH!

After the screening, Matt Roush from TV was introduced and he brought the panelists up to the stage. Jamie was wearing a blue suit with a pink and blue tie and did I mention how good he looked? He was distracting enough that I had to remind myself to pay attention to what everyone was saying.

Matt started by asking everyone how they felt about being associated with a show that has the kind of stigma BSG does. Ron and David discussed the evolution...how Ron didn't think he wanted to come back to this genre after so many years with Star Trek but, watching an episode of the original show, he had a very clear vision of how to re-imagine it. And David spoke about his overall lack of interest in sci-fi before coming to work on the show. Both Mary and Eddie mentioned that they were immediately drawn to the mission statement included with the script and the caliber of the story telling. Jamie spoke of his initial trepidation once he saw the original BSG which included thigh high boots and a monkey in a dog suit. *g*

Next Matt asked the actors what they thought was up next for their characters in s3 and Jamie got the biggest laugh of the night when he said that Jenny Craig was next up for Apollo. Apparently it took 4 hours in make-up to add the weight to his face in the season 2 finale. He said that Apollo clearly spent the unseen year gorging on twinkies.

At some point, Mary mentioned how much she enjoys working with Eddie and watching the relationship between Laura and Adama grow.

During the Q&A, someone asked Jamie about the American accent. (Which reminds me...it was incredibly disconcerting to hear him speak with his natural accent. He's so British *g* and his natural speaking voice was an octave and a half higher than Lee's. :) ) Jamie said that it is difficult to act with the accent - he has to remember not to spend so much time on th accent that he forgets to act.

There was also a trivia contest for signed posters/DVDs and poor Eddie thought his question was a tough one: "What was Bill Adama's call sign." (It's never spoken on the show but it's written on the side of his old Viper.)

Vague comments about SEASON THREE. Don't read below if you want to remain completely unspoiled.

Ron and David were asked about the decision to to end season 2 one year in the future. Ron said that they made the decision about halfway through season 2 and decided to take it forward a full year to make the change in everyone's life more drastic. They thought about just taking them a month forward but it wouldn't have the same impact. They did confirm, though, that season 3 will include flashbacks to the time we missed in season 2 so some of those holes will be filled in. (Personally, I don't need substantial flashbacks but there are some scenes I'd love to see - mostly with Gaius as President.)

That's all I got! It was so much fun. Everyone was gracious and it's clear that the actors believe in the show which, ultimately, is great for them and for the fans.

The MT&R will have a webcast of the panel available on June 5th. I highly recommend you check it out.

HOW MANY MONTHS UNTIL SEASON THREE???
