Lately, particularly following The Pegasus Project, I'm taken with Sheppard/Mitchell fic. There are pieces of them that are polar opposites. Sheppard ended up in the thick of this by a fluke of genetics and the will to take a risk. Mitchell, for heaven's sake, caressed the damn gate when he first showed up at the SGC. He wanted to be there (with a "Yes, Sir!" tacked on for good measure). I don't know that Mitchell's experience is quite what he expected - particularly at the beginning - and it's certainly more than Sheppard ever possibly imagined. And now they both have the kind of commands you can't even try to dream of at the Academy. With all of that, I love to see what happens when you put them together. For example:

Sheppard shrugs, lazy roll of his shoulders, and maybe Cam's imagining things but he thinks the tips of Sheppard's ears flush a little red. Sheppard unzips his jacket and shrugs it off, back over the pilot's seat, and leans in toward Cam. "Still a lot of bad shit out there, still a lot of crap decisions you got to make, but at least some of them, maybe you've made them before." Sheppard pauses and then says, quieter, "Maybe you make them right the second time around." Set mid-The Pegasus Project. - Here is no water by frostfire (Sheppard/Mitchell, NC-17)
"And for some eternal moment, he's caught between no wonder they nearly died forty-seven different times and no wonder they're all still alive." This story is insanely, fucking good. It's Mitchell and Sheppard in Afghanistan and, really, they're both so fucked up it makes sense the only place they could possibly end up is with the SGC. - Fly Boys by danawoods (Mitchell/Sheppard, NC-17)
