I still have the weekend ahead of me but my week out of the office is officially over and I've achieved the 9th level of laziness. Even today's trip to the gym was canceled in favor of a nap. I know I'm career driven and all but I really think I could live a happy life as a lady who lunches.

Between reading and sleeping and watching Bones, I did get two things taken care of over the past two days: a visit from the plumber and Sally's annual trip to the vet. She's 7.4lbs now (up 0.7 from LY) and the vet suggested putting her on diet or indoor cat food. I don't know, either. But I'm going to listen to the vet. The plumber fixed a leaky faucet in my kitchen and now my water tastes and smells like motor oil.

I'm officially up to date on Bones and the internet is telling me that another episode isn't scheduled to air until April. How am I expected to mainline 50 episodes and then wait four months for more?

I started watching the show because [livejournal.com profile] carta told me that Bones & Booth are a modern day Scarecrow & Mrs. King. There are obvious differences what with Bones actually bringing her technical expertise to the cases and their partnership is out in the open but, yeah, they're totally the new SMK. They have the bickering, the banter, and the wild UST down to a science.

Oh! Also about Bones, Eric Millegan graduated from the University of Michigan which, I imagine, is partly why his character was written as a Michigan native. I never expected it but my developing loyalty to UofM is also settling into a loyalty to Michigan (the state of). It must be the power of the Big 10. Now I see Michigan everywhere. (I was watching The West Wing while doing some work last night and one of the episodes was "The Portland Trip." This is the first time I actually registered that Bartlett's worked up over a Notre Dame/Michigan game. It's not something I'd ever have processed before I got sucked into the madness that is Michigan football.)

Patrick Stewart fans: This link here will take you to some fantastic ads Stewart is doing in the UK for some kind of electronic brain games.

EW has a two page spread on BSG in this week's issue and Ron Moore offer explanations for the character poses. (Original scans are by mediocrechick.) Note: There are some really good spoilers in the text. Click at your own risk. (But click. And then come talk about it with me.)

I'd really like this show to come back NOW. Please and thank you.

Woke up in time for the refrigerator man to come by and set everything in working order. Perishable food, here I come!

Sci-fi sent me an e-mail to tell me about Jason Momoa's new video interview at Sci-Fi pulse so I promptly headed over to watch and was both thoroughly delighted by Momoa and spoiled for an upcoming episode. Same for the interview with Jewel Staite. They're totally worth it, though, if you don't mind clips from unaired eps.

I'm through with the final episode of Scarecrow & Mrs. King. *sigh* It took me just under two months to make my way through the four seasons and it was tremendous fun. Sadly, the final few episodes are disappointing. Kate Jackson was ill and had to pull back on her air time so most of her involvement was phoned in in the form of character references. Even more than that, Lee and Amanda still had stories left to tell. When do they divulge their marriage to her family? Do they ever come out at work? What about kids? Lee would be a great father but how to they balance raising a child and playing spy? I completely understand why the fanfic communities run fests for a fictional 5th and 6th season. If only the fic was good. Sadly, my general response to the SMK fanfic I've found is WOE.

Endless gratitude to [livejournal.com profile] carta for lending me the DVDs and [livejournal.com profile] anamchara for burning them in the first place. I don't have a DVD burner but I'm going to see if I can source out a burn job before I return the discs. There are any number of episodes I know I'll want to watch again and again and again. And my SMK calendar arrived in the mail so I'll have them with me all through 2008.

In conclusion, Lee and Amanda = #1 OTP FOREVER x eleventybillion.

I should go to the gym and the supermarket but I think I'm going to take a nap. My bed wants me to and I think I can convince Sally to join me.

  • I'm finally starting to feel human again. After sleeping an ungodly number of hours yesterday, I rallied today for brunch with my friend Richard and a trip to the new Borders store in Canton. I can't leave a bookstore empty handed and came away with America in Space: NASA's First Fifty Years: The story of Americas space age is told with more than 400 carefully selected images. The story begins in the 1950s with intrepid test pilots venturing ever faster and higher, and opens out into the now-legendary Mercury and Apollo missions of the 1960s that made astronauts into national heroes. The large format of the book captures both the human drama and the vast scale of NASAs projects.

My only sorrow is that I have but one coffee table for all of my coffee table books. I'm already rotating Postcards from Mars, Cosmos, and The Complete Earth. Perhaps it's time to get visually creative.

  • Also on this weekend's agenda was Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney. It's an incredibly whimsical book written in the format of a middle school boy's diary and told through narrative and cartoons. The book is a quick read but totally worth it (and probably a great gift for a 10- 12 year old boy). On the reading front, I'm still making my way through The Elegant Universe before I move on to Twilight.

  • It's been everywhere today but I picked up this meme from [livejournal.com profile] copracat - Comment on this post. I will choose seven userpics from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are using them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.

My answers for the icons copracat picked:

Keywords: bsg grown up love - By ellymelly. Oh, my god. I could go on and on and on about everything I love about Adama & Roslin (and Adama/Roslin) and the entire arc of their friendship, specifically what we saw in "Unfinished Business." They're the grown-ups of the fleet. They have their differences and their own unique challenges but there is a spark when they're on screen together. Adama & Roslin are an example of 1 + 1 = 3. (Off topic, but so are Lee Stetson and Amanda King. And Mulder & Scully. All of the greatest pairings are better than the sum of their parts.)

    The rest... )

  • I'm almost through with my Scarecrow & Mrs. King binge. Today was their wedding episode, "Do You Take This Spy," and I'd be embarrassed to admit I cried if it wasn't one of the best TV moments ever. EVER. Seriously. I say that knowing that there are (maybe) four of you reading this who even care about the show but, if you watched the series straight though, I have no doubt you'd share my love.

I'd like to say that I'd die for a reunion movie but Kate Jackson has ruined that possibility with all of her face work. Amanda would have aged gracefully with laugh lines and crows feet and Lee would have loved her all the more for it...would have loved the history of their lives etched on her face. Kate Jackson, on the other hand, was not so fond of natural aging. Case in point: Example 1) Kate as Amanda Example 2) Kate today. COULD YOU JUST WEEP??

12 days running and I'm getting worse, not better. Bah humbug.

[Poll #1069352]

I'm up to 03x20 in my Scarecrow & Mrs. King marathon which means I'm three episodes away from the kiss. These three seasons have been fantastic. There is nothing quite like the build up of Amanda and Lee's relationship. (Or, as [livejournal.com profile] carta would say, Lee and Amanda's relationship. On that note, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kiffle for putting up with the sporadic bursts of SMK love this past weekend in Chicago. When you're in a fandom of three, you have to make the most of the rare moments when you're in a room together.) Now, if only I could figure out how to burn these DVDs to my computer.

This post is mostly about ST:TNG but, to take my mind off the fast, I mainlined Scarecrow & Mrs. King today and I'm in Amanda/Lee heaven. Favorite het pairing ever. EVER OMG. This clip? *dies*

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] scot_ty posted this link to EW's 'Star Trek: The Next Generation': The Top 10 Episodes and it motivated me to make my own top 10 list. It's actually a top 11 because bonuses are always good. I also wonder how this list would change if the show aired now instead of when I was a teenager. Clearly I had a thing for romance. Listed in order of air date because it's impossible for me to rank these:

  • s4 The Best of Both Worlds - "I am Locutus of Borg. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated." Best cliffhanger in the Star Trek franchise.

  • s4 Future Imperfect - One of my favorite Riker episodes.

  • s4 The Host - Romance, take 1. Beverly tried so hard to resist Odan. Silly woman. (Though I still think she should have given that final host a chance.)

  • s5 The Outcast - Romance, take 2. I love a smitten Riker.

  • s5 The Inner Light - Seeing Picard living another lifetime, a completely different life from the one he chose, struck me and stayed with me.

  • s6 Chain of Command - There! Are! Four! Lights! Gun to my head, this is my favorite episode of the series.

  • s6 Tapestry - Young Picard, the implications of our choices, Q...perfect.

  • s6 Lessons - Romance, take 3. My favorite part of this ep, aside from the Picard romance and the tension with Beverly, was the continuity from "The Inner Light."

  • s6 Second Chances - Two Rikers! I was 16 and in heaven.

  • s7 Attached - I still remember seeing the preview for this episode and exploding in anticipation. The end of the ep broke my heart a bit but it's still a favorite.

  • s7 Lower Decks - Lower decks wasn't even about the primary crew but it remains a favorite. I love the glimpse into the lives of these young officers and seeing the senior officers from their perspective.

I have plans to head into the office for a while tomorrow (out of pure necessity rather than even an iota of desire) and I have to get my lazy ass to the gym.
